"You are Just being too sensitive!"

White people will swear up and down that racism "does not exist" or "ended a long time ago". They will say that Black people are being "too sensitive" when they are given specific examples of racism. They will say something racist DIRECTLY to a Black person and then claim that the "race card" is being pulled when they are called on their ignorant actions. Dr. Laura Schlessenger just provided the world with a concrete example of what white folks say and do behind closed doors. The only difference between her and the white family next door is that she spewed this nonsense in a very public setting.

I cannot even begin to tell you the number of times I have heard white people express these SAME racist notions when they think "no one else is listening". The same people who are out in public excoriating the KKK or neo-Nazis for their ignorant ways are going home and speaking to their spouses, friends and children about the "hypersensitivity" of Black people. They are cracking racist jokes when they believe they are around "their own kind." They are making comments about how it is "a good thing" that their children do not have Black students in their class at school. (That was a personal example I recently heard from a "family" member.)

Yes, Dr. Laura is an ignorant ass. But she is VERY TYPICAL of white people in America. White folks want to claim that racism is dead because "white people put Obama in office". Well, those white folks who put Obama in office voted for him because they saw him as a "good Black". They consider Barack Obama to be an "exception" to the rule of the "big, bad, dangerous Black man". They take the example of ONE Black person who has done something wrong and claim that the INDIVIDUAL is REPRESENTATIVE OF THEIR ENTIRE RACE! Yet, they do not claim that Jeffrey Dahmer, or Ted Bundy, or David Berkowitz are "typical" of white men. They consider a white criminal to be an anomaly. And they consider a "good Black" like Barack Obama to be an anomaly as well.

The words of Dr. Laura ARE NOT an aberration. They are the typical mindset of the majority of white folks in the country. The only reason most white folks even bother to call out this type of nonsense is because they like to think of themselves as open minded, good hearted people. But the truth is, MOST WHITE PEOPLE will say and do EXACTLY the same things as Dr. Laura when they are in the company of other white folks.

Now, that is not to say that NO ONE would stand up to such bullshit. There ARE a few white individuals who DO stand up for justice, who DO strive for equality, who ARE opposed to the white supremacist system. But, they are few and far between. Dr. Laura is pretty much the norm.

Side Note: Listen to how Dr. Laura spews out the word "Black" as if it is a curse, or somehow disgusting to her ears.
